Do you have a postgraduate qualification in Adult Education or TESOL, a passion for education, commitment to social inclusion, a can do attitude, excellent project coordination and interpersonal skills? Sydney Community College is seeking two additional Project Officers to work in the Social Inclusion Unit.

Position 1.
This position will initially coordinate the award winning Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program (SMMP). The second position will initially coordinate English Language, Literacy & Numeracy (ELLN) and work on the Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program (SMMP). The ELLN coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of Sydney Community College CSWE and some non-accredited ESL programs and will report to the Manager, Social Inclusion. The ELLN Coordinator will also work on the SMMP. Remuneration $55K-$65K package including superannuation and leave loading. Salary packaging available.

The Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program
Unemployment among skilled migrants is 30 per cent above average The SMMP provides skilled migrants with a pathway into the Australian workforce, overcoming barriers to participation through the delivery of a range of services including vocational mentoring, work experience, employment placement, education and training.

The SMMP takes a case management approach, offering a service tailored to the needs of individual participants. The SMMP recruits volunteer mentors, matches the mentee with a vocationally relevant mentor and works with the volunteer mentor and the mentee to develop and implement a pathway plan, a roadmap to employment, which takes account of the mentees training, language, communication, work experience and employment needs and provides support to the skilled migrant at all points along their journey.

The relationship between mentor & mentee is the heart of the SMMP and successfully delivering the SMMP requires building, consolidating and maintaining community networks to generate participation from volunteer mentors. Networks are also required to generate applications from skilled migrant participants and the participation of employers, who provide work experience placements and jobs for skilled migrants.

The SMMP is perhaps best understood through the case studies of some recent successful participants at the following page on the SMMP website

The SMMP website includes other information about the SMMP, including a list of employers who have provided work experience and/or employment at
