Codes of Conduct; Students.

The College views Students as equal partners in the education process. As such, students at the College have similar responsibilities in respect of the College and to each other. Students therefore will:

  • respect the individuality and rights of all fellow students:
  • maintain privacy and confidentiality in respect of all matters relating to students and staff:
  • adhere to directions from the class tutor:
  • work safely and not endanger others in the class:
  • participate positively in class:
  • adhere all College policies and procedures, including any rules and regulations (where known) governing the College’s operations:
  • be aware of, apply and adhere to access and equity obligations described at Access and Equity

Codes of Conduct; Teaching.

All Sydney Community College Tutors will be aware of the individual needs of the learner and adopt teaching methodologies and learning materials appropriate to those needs that are not in conflict with the needs of the wider community. All Sydney Community College Tutors will behave ethically and in the interests of the student and the College as a whole by:

  • being punctual to classes:
  • being fit for work when on duty:
  • applying the principles of adult learning:
  • respecting the individuality of all students:
  • building on the students’ knowledge and prior learning:
  • being aware of and applying appropriate adult learning strategies:
  • maintaining privacy and confidentiality in respect of all matters relating to students:
  • assessing and marking work fairly and without favour and in compliance with any governing legislation and/or guidelines:
  • being aware of, applying and adhering to OH&S principles:
  • not profiting from teaching at the College other than as agreed to by the College:
  • disclosing all matters where a conflict of interest and/or ethical issue may or does arise:

Codes of Conduct; Administration/Management.

The Sydney Community College administration/management staff will provide the College with the resources, procedures and expertise necessary to assist with the achievement of the published plans and goals whilst adhering to all internal and external rules and obligations. Administration/management staff will always be able to demonstrate that its group and individual behaviour has been in the best interest of the students, tutors and to the College as a whole. In particular the Sydney Community College administration/management staff will:

  • be punctual and fit for work while on duty;
  • carry out the business of the College with due diligence and in accordance with any legislative, regulatory, industry code or standards requirements:
  • maintain privacy and confidentiality in respect of all matters relating to students and staff:
  • disclose all matters where a conflict of interest and/or ethical issue may or does arise:
  • not profit from the business of the College other than as agreed to by the College:
  • service the College customers and stakeholders equally and fairly:
  • be aware of, apply and adhere to access and equity obligations described at Access and Equity

Codes of Conduct; Directors.

Members of the Sydney Community College Board will govern the affairs of the College efficiently, ethically and effectively to best serve the needs of the staff and students of the College and College clients and stakeholders. The Board will guide the decision making process to focus on the achievement of published goals and will apply appropriate resources to ensure that due diligence, risk management and compliance with statutory and other obligations is applied in the operation of the College. The Board should always be able to demonstrate that its group and individual behaviour has been in the best interest of the students, College staff and other College stakeholders. In particular, the College Board will:

  • focus on the achievement of the College mission:
  • prepare and monitor budgets diligently:
  • disclose all matters where a conflict of interest and/or ethical issue may or does arise:
  • not profit from activities of the College other than as agreed to by the Board as a whole:
  • be diligent in the execution of governance responsibilities:
  • treat all Board matters as confidential until released by the Board:
  • be aware of, apply and adhere to access and equity obligations described at Access and Equity.
