Silver Jewellery Essentials (Workshop)
If you want to learn Silver Jewellery in Sydney then this course of 3 classes is for you.
Learn basic silver working techniques whilst designing and producing items of jewellery.
Jewellery is a foremost form of personal adornment, but within the production of such work lies a wealth of history, meaning, technique and creation that makes this intimate craft an intriguing journey of exploration. Students will learn basic silver working techniques whilst designing and producing their own items of silver jewellery. Additional cost of metal and equipment: approximately $70.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- Learning about equipment used to make silver jewellery.
- Designing a medallion/pendant made from copper.
- Learning to design and make 2 silver rings.
- Practising annealing/shaping/fitting; ring joint/soldering.
- Learning and practising polishing techniques.
- Finishing the rings.
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course the student will have:
- Learned to use basic metal work tools.
- Learned and practised basic silver working techniques
- Produced two silver rings during class, and, depending upon progress, a third item using a variety of techniques.
- Please bring pens, pencils, paper, rubber and FINEPOINT PERMANENT MARKER.
- While kits of basic handtools are available during class, you will be required to purchase some of your own equipment (list of tools and where to buy outlined in lesson 1), also any extra silver you may want.
*Please bring $70.00 for the first class for metals and small tool kit. Some additional metals will be available from the Tutor.
