Silver Jewellery with Precious Metal Clay
Create 99.9% pure silver jewellery using PMC, any shape or texture is achievable. Roll, paint, syringe, mould or carve, all are possible using PMC clay, which after firing in a kiln will transform to pure silver.
If you want to learn Silver Jewellery in Sydney, then this course is for you.
This workshop will also introduce you to a variety of techniques with this new medium from Japan with several pieces of fine silver jewellery being completed. Course includes all PMC materials. You will be able to produce several pieces of fine silver jewellery.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- An overview of Precious Metal Clay and its limitless possibilities will be presented
- Learn about the equipment used and various techniques
- Design and make a slab pendant
- Design and make either, earrings or a large hollow silver bead
- Learn to shape and join clay effectively
- Learn finishing techniques such as hand burnishing and polishing, electric tumbling etc
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course, the student will have:
- Learned to manipulate PMC
- Learned appropriate OH&S standards
- Gained knowledge on useful and appropriate tools for working with PMC
- Produced a minimum of three items constructed with PMC
- Gained knowledge of suppliers, jewellery tools, craft guilds, publications and appropriate Internet sites

NB: Items should be plastic, wood or stainless steel only, avoid other metals, especially aluminium as it can react and tarnish the silver.
