Twitter is a ‘microblogging’ platform that uses 140 characters to share with others: ‘What you are doing’. More than 12 million people use Twitter every day, but its possibilities for business are just being discovered. More than 200 million people worldwide (3 million in Australia) use Facebook for connecting with friends, customers and members of clubs and organisations. They have an exciting future as tools for promotion and business development.

Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

- Using Twitter for customer relations, crisis management and protecting reputations
- Using Twitter for issues and advocacy
- How to be found in the crowd – techniques for Twitter visibility
- Monitoring themes and issues on Twitter
- Best tools and services for managing Twitter contacts and messages
Facebook:
- Next steps with Facebook – beyond family and friends
- How to build a community of fans with Facebook Groups
- Creating a vibrant promotional space with Facebook pages
- Using Facebook applications to extend your range
- How smart businesses and networks are using Facebook
- Facebook advertising – options and examples
- Connecting Facebook and Twitter with your website and business
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Prepare an action plan for using Twitter and Facebook, suitable for their type of business and customers
- Manage Twitter messages and monitor important themes and issues
- Use a range of free online services to give them control of Twitter activity
- Set up a suitable Facebook Group and Page for promotion of their business or network
- Assess the relevance of Facebook or other online advertising options
- Be able to incorporate Twitter and Facebook into their marketing activities
Please bring a notepad and pen.
The workshop is a demonstration session with the tutor using a large screen. Workshop includes notes, a special web page of resources and 6 months of personal consultation (online or in person) with your tutor to assist in the use of Twitter and Facebook to promote your business or network.
