Enjoy a practical course in horsemanship. This course is a beginners riders group where you will learn to work with horses in a safe, practical and confident manner.
Discover the correct riding position, control of the horse and familiarise yourself with the psychology and anatomy of the horse. Conducted at the Centennial Parklands Equestrian Centre.
If you want to learn to Horse Ride in Sydney, then this course is for you.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- Learn to interact with a horse – approaching a horse, catching and correctly saddling and bridling, checking tack for safety and comfort
- Learn to mount and dismount safely
- Learn to ride a horse – control at walk and trot
- Learn to untack and put horse away
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course the student will have:
- Become more familiar and proficient with basic horsemanship skills
- Demonstrated skills needed to walk and trot
Participants must be 18 years or over.
Please go to Moore Park Stables, A Pavilion, Centennial Parklands Equestrian Centre (Formerly Sydney Showground). Pedestrian entry from Lang Road with parking available in the Equestrian Grounds. The tutor and contact person at Moore Park Stables is Rosemary Gough 9360 8747.
Please wear or bring closed in shoes with flat heel and preferably no laces with jodhpurs, jeans or track pants & sun block. Helmets & horses supplied. No running shoes or sneakers allowed.
Riding boots – The stables have a limited amount available, but it is preferable to wear your own.

PLS NOTE: All classes need a minimum number of students to go ahead. If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled and you will be informed. Courses are usually cancelled, when necessary, 2 working days prior to the scheduled start date.***Please be aware that you may be informed of a cancellation &/or change via SMS or E-mail.
For all courses involving physical activity you must arrive by the published course commencement time or the tutor may refuse to admit you into the session. The agenda for many courses involving physical activity starts with an OH&S briefing and/or a warm up and to miss either may create a hazard to you, which might exclude you from participation for the session.
