Acting Basic Techniques

If you want to learn about Acting in Sydney, then this course is for you.

Love to perform? Learn the essential aspects of acting techniques and explore how to approach text. Discover the elements of efficient speaking whilst developing your voice. Express yourself effectively through improvisation and interpretation of texts under the guidance of a professional director and actor with years of experience. No experience needed.

Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

  • Learn the elements of effective speaking technique
  • Practice relaxation techniques – of the body, the throat and controlled breathing
  • Learn acting techniques
  • Experience visualisation and blocking, rehearsing and building a character
  • Appreciate the structure and momentum of play
  • Develop the structure of the scene and understand the motivation of characters and their relationships
  • Action, conflict and its resolution given circumstances, belief, sub-text and interpretation
  • Perform a part using the techniques of speaking and acting


All our activities and improvisations are related to the development of the student’s self-expression, trust and self-esteem.

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course the student will have:

  • Developed and practiced the techniques of speech production
  • Developed and practiced the techniques of representing a character in a play
  • Performed the part of a character in a play using the voice and acting skills learned

Leichhardt Campus, Sydney Secondary College (formerly Leichhardt High School) is located on the corner of Balmain Road and Moore Street West. Entry via Derbyshire Street. Onsite parking very limited, some street parking available.
