Develop your skills as a street photographer- shooting people, ironic situations and interesting grunge.

- Spend 45 minutes doing a camera-less photo shoot on nearby streets – compare results
- Set up your own web gallery and learn how to download to the class gallery
Day Two:
- Street shoot/black and white
- Topic – Elegant Grunge
- Technique – how to make the most of available light, shade and texture
Day Three:
- Street shoot/black and white

- Techniques – how to approach people/how to make the most of the lines and shapes around them
Day Four:
- Street shoot/colour

Day Five:

Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- Incorporate available light, shade and texture in their street images
- Approach strangers and gain their permission to appear in one’s pictures
- Incorporate the lines and shapes around people when doing street portraits
- Use bright colours sparingly and powerfully
- See irony and contradictions that less observant people pass by
- Set up a personal online gallery
- Plan and launch an online gallery for the group: a constantly expanding showcase of members’ best work
- Gain feedback on their work from photographers around the world
Other Information
Please wear casual, comfortable clothes and appropriate walking shoes (with close toes or boots and wear a sun safe hat).
You will need to bring your own camera, lenses, batteries and if you’re using a film camera, at least one roll of film. Suggest 100–400ASA.
You must be able to use the equipment you’ll be shooting with. You need to know:
- What an “f” stop is
- What shutter speeds are
- What ISO/ASA is
- What a focusing ring is
- How to load and unload film (if you’re using a film camera)
If you’re not clear about all of these things you should enrol in a Photography Essentials class before applying to do this course.
If shooting on film, you’ll need to select a pro lab to do your processing and scan your images onto a CD (of you do not have access to a scanner). These places are not very costly (around $30 per roll for processing and a 5mg roll scan). List of labs will be supplied by the tutor. It is not advisable to use budget labs like Rabbit Photo. These places are fine for snap shooters but do not satisfy the demands of the enthusiast.
You will need to have access to a computer with internet between classes (all libraries have this facility if you’re not set up at home).
The safety and security of your equipment when on the street is your responsibility.
