This certificate is recognised as an accreditation of competence in English throughout Australia. CSWE I is the Beginners level course. It is likely to take up to 12 months to master all the elements of the course.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that some of the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

- Responding to spoken instructions in the context of learning
- Locating information in an alphabetical order
- Providing personal information using spoken language
- Completing a short application form
- Writing a short note or message
- Participating in short spoken transactional exchange
- Conducting a short telephone conversation
- Giving spoken description
- Telling a short recount
- Giving spoken instruction
- Reading short instruction
- Understanding of a spoken information text
- Reading a short information text
- Reading a short recount or narrative
- Writing a short recount
- Writing a short letter
- Expressing a personal viewpoint in written description
- Understanding of common whole numbers and performing simple arithmetical operations
- Understanding of common fractions and percentages
- Understanding of the measurement of time
- Understanding of common words, terms and symbols used in the measurement of temperature, length, mass and volume

Objectives
By the end of the course the student will have:
- Built language, reading, writing, & speaking skills in a variety of contexts.

ENROLMENT and ASSESSMENT
Student initial interviews/placements dates:
- Monday 13th October at Cleveland Street 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Bring a pen and a notebook.
Cleveland St English High, corner Cleveland and Chalmers Sts, Surry Hills (5 min walk from Devonshire St exit of Central Station). Enter from Chalmers St.
Non-residential students will be awarded a statement of attendance.
Classes run over two days every week to make up 16 sessions of three hours each.
Each course may take up to twelve months to complete (over four terms) as in each term, only two Learning Outcomes are covered. It is advised to enrol in more than one term of the course so that you receive a certificate in the course rather than just an attendance certificate.
PLS NOTE: All classes need a minimum number of students to go ahead. If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled and you will be informed.***Please be aware that you maybe be informed of a cancellation &/or change via SMS or E-mail.
