Flavours of Asia
If you want to learn how to cook Asian food in Sydney, then this course of 7 classes is for you.
Wok through Asia and learn to prepare and cook a wide variety of delicious food from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, China and India. Learn to identify the various herbs and spices used in the different cuisines of Asia. Useful cooking tips and techniques are included.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- Identifying Asian herbs and spices used in the different cuisines of Asia.
- Learning how to prepare and how to use these herbs and spices.
- Understanding the importance of food preparation and hygiene.
- Learning useful cooking tips in the Asian kitchen, for example, how to ‘season’ a wok.
- Know where to purchase Asian ingredients.
- To be able to prepare a wide variety of dishes from the different countries of Asia.
- Appreciate the subtle differences of the different cuisines.
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
- After the 7-week course, the student will have a good knowledge of Asian cuisine, learn how to prepare and cook the dishes with confidence and be familiar with the different herbs and spices used.
Other Information
Please bring a chef’s knife (a wide blade knife), a tea towel, an apron and a food container.
Leichhardt Campus, Sydney Secondary College (formerly Leichhardt High School) is located on the corner of Balmain Road and Moore Street West. Entry via Derbyshire Street. Onsite parking very limited, some street parking available.
