Learn the timeless art of mosaic. During this course you can decorate an object eg table, mirror surround, garden pot. Tiles, glue, grout will be available from the tutor at $30 or BYO.

Learn the timeless art of mosaic. Traditional and modern mosaic techniques will be taught. In a surprisingly short time you could be decorating your house and garden with beautiful mosaics. During this course you can decorate a table, a mirror surround, a garden pot or any other object you wish to mosaic. Tiles, glue, grout will be available from the tutor at $30 or you can bring your own.

Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

• Appreciating the art and traditions of mosaic making.
• Drawing up design for an indirect mosaic.
• Making an indirect mosaic – cut glass tiles and glue.
• Finishing an indirect mosaic – making cement and motar
• Learning to make a mosaic by the direct method – learning techniques for cutting tiles.
• Completing direct mosaic.

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course the student will have:

• Learned the basic techniques involved in making mosaics
• Learned about the versatility of materials
• Appreciated the use of mosaics both within the house and in the garden.

Other Information

Please bring safety glasses, pencil and drawing pad to the first class. Tiles, glue, grout will be available from the tutor at $30 or you can bring your own.
