Bellydance
If you want to learn Bellydance in Sydney, then this course is for you.
Learn this very exotic and ancient dance involving a lot of stomach and hip movement. It involves muscle control and strength and is both toning and aerobic.
Learn this ancient art of dance that has been preserved through the centuries. Excellent for the lower back and posture. Learn the mysterious veil dance and connect with natural rhythms within. Non-judgemental environment and fun for all ages and body types. This course is for women who have been enticed by this mysterious art form. You can learn this ancient dance regardless of your age, shape or stage in life. Dance styles include Egyptian, Turkish, Lebanese dances and drum solos.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- Learn to appreciate Arab music and moving to its rhythms – floor poses and hand movements
- Use stretch exercises to limber body
- Learn basic movements of the dance – eg. hip circles, forward and backward figure 8s, hip bumps, drops and lifts, belly rolls, diaphragm circles, shimmy, snake arms and discovering the symbol of the veil
- Learn basic steps of the dance
- Apply basic steps and movements to choreography
- Perform a choreographed dance
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course the student will have:
- Learned to prepare for Dance
- Learned Dance poses and hand movements
- Learned basic movements and steps
- Appreciated and learned to move to Arabic rhythms
- Performed a choreographed Dance
- Learned body awareness
- Learned muscle memory
- Learned safe self-discovery leading to increased confidence
- Learned in a non-competitive yet sharing environment
- Gained a genuine sense of achievement
- Had a sense of fun in learning

Be sure to dress in comfortable clothing and wear shoes to suit the style chosen: Belly Dance – soft flexible shoes.
