Do some exercise and discover Sydney’s new cycle ways. Learn how to check the bike and even take the front wheel off to fit it in the car. Enjoy a cycleway ride with a group.

Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- How to check your bike
- Know the road rules
- Identify road hazards
- Correct braking precision & emergency stops
- Manoeuvring and tight turns
- Riding through narrow entrances
- Riding with one hand
- Cornering safely
- Gearing & correct pedal speed
- How to take the front wheel off
- Cycleway ride
- Correct hill climbing technique
- Information re. cycle groups & activities
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course the student will:
- Be able to check that the bike is safe and to remove the front wheel
- Be able to identify road hazards
- Have the skills to ride on cycle ways safely
- Know how to join an appropriate cycle group for support and more learning
Other Information
Students need to bring the following:
- A completed Physical Activity Readiness questionnaire (PAR-Q) (see note below)
- A roadworthy bicycle with gears
- Helmet
- Sports shoes or cycling shoes not sandals or thongs
- Water bottle and water bottle holder on the bike
- Any cycle tools or puncture repair kit that you may have
- Pump (if owned)
Students will be advised on what tools and puncture repair equipment they will need to buy if they start cycling regularly.
This course will be held in the Rozelle Hospital Grounds, corner Wharf St and Balmain Rd, Lilyfield.

All sport/recreation classes are active and therefore you must bring to the attention of the tutor any physical or health-related impairment that may affect your safety.
PLS NOTE: All classes need a minimum number of students to go ahead. If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled and you will be informed. ***Please be aware that you may be informed of a cancellation &/or change via SMS or E-mail.
For all courses involving physical activity you must arrive by the published course commencement time or the tutor may refuse to admit you into the session. The agenda for many courses involving physical activity starts with an OH&S briefing and/or a warm up and to miss either may create a hazard to you, which might exclude you from participation for the session.
