Stand Up Comedy

Become a stand up comedian! Anyone can be funny if they know how. Get in touch with your comic persona and create the material that leaves them laughing in the aisles. This course will help you acquire the basic techniques of gag writing and presentation. Feel the fear and do it anyway!
If you want to learn about Stand Up Comedy in Sydney, then this course is for you.
There will also be an opportunity to perform in an open mike venue.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- Creating safe space
- Freeing your imagination
- Story telling
- Stand up format: set up punch line
- Comic tools: how to write comic material
- Discover comic personas
- Discover your comic themes
- Microphone technique
- Stagecraft
- Performance
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course, students will:
- Understand the concept of comic persona and be able to identify their own
- Have learned practical tools for writing comedy
- Have written material that compliments their comic persona
- Have acquired basic microphone and stage presentation techniques
- Have experienced performing and testing out material in front of a group of people

Please bring:
- A4 Pad/Book
- Pen, pencil and eraser
There will be an in-house performance in the last session. This is for those students who would like to exercise their new skills. This is not by any means compulsory.
