If you are interested in designing and producing your own custom made jewellery, then this course is for you. It is suitable for everyone, from absolute beginners through to intermediate jewellery makers. Beaded jewellery makes the perfect gift for family members and friends and is simple to make in your own home. This course covers many techniques from design, stringing and finishing, then incorporating those skills to make many styles including multi strand necklaces, illusion necklaces, charm bracelets, chandelier earrings, and more.

Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- Introduction of tutor
- OH&S relating to making beaded jewellery
- Overview of the tools used throughout the term and how to manipulate them
- A short overview of the types of materials used in beaded jewellery
- Design principles in relation to beaded styles
- Make a pair of simple earrings
- Make a single strand necklace using tiger tail and crimps, design and make a bracelet using the same technique
- Make a multi strand necklace using soft flex wire with the ‘illusion’ style technique
- Make a bracelet using stretch magic
- Make a leather choker using wooden beads
- Make a necklace and a pair of earrings using eye pins to form a chain style
- Make a bracelet using chains, beads and charms to form a fashionable piece of jewellery
- Make a pair of ‘chandelier’ style earrings, using beads, chain and wire
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course students will have:
- Gained an understanding of OH&S in relation to Beading
- Learned to use basic hand tools such as pliers
- Learned a variety of beading/threading techniques with an array of materials such as crimps and various stringing techniques
- Learned basic terminology for bead styles and techniques
- Discussed, explored and used basic design principles, using this to prepare and develop their designs
- Gained knowledge of suppliers, materials and jewellery tool outlets

In this course we will be making a variety of different pieces of wearable jewellery. The college will provide all the equipment and tools you will need throughout the term. We will discuss in the first lesson any materials that you may wish to purchase so you can create more designs at home. Some basic tools and materials will be needed, all the details will be provided throughout the course. However, if you have any tools you can bring them along to any of the workshops. Any glass beads or materials that you have at home can be brought along and incorporated into your designs. While basic colours and sizes of beads are provided, students may need to source and purchase specialist beads and/or other materials depending on their individual designs.
Leichhardt Campus, Sydney Secondary College (formerly Leichhardt High School) is located on the corner of Balmain Road and Moore Street West. Pedestrian entrance is on Balmain Rd near Annesley St intersection. Limited parking is available in the school car park, which is accessible from Derbyshire Rd (west of Balmain Rd). Drivers can also park in Annesley St or Hill St (east of Balmain Rd).
