When a waiter asks you to taste the wine do you know how to assess what you are tasting? This lively and social introductory wine course presents an overview of basic winemaking, red & white varieties and styles, Australian viticultural areas, wine with food and fortified and sparkling wine production. Emphasis is placed on student participation and approximately 40 wines are tasted from premium sparkling wine to inexpensive chardonnay. The course is suitable for both the novice and those working in the hospitality industry. Course fee includes cost of wines tasted, student notes and a set of six professional wine tasting glasses. An optional eighth session is arranged in a restaurant.

Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- How to taste wine
- Levels of quality in relation to price
- White wine varieties and styles
- Red wine varieties and styles
- Sparkling wine and champagne
- Basic Viticulture, Australian wine regions, buying and storing wine
- Fortified wines
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course the student will have:
- An expanded experience of wine varieties and styles
- A basic technical knowledge of winemaking
- A greater appreciation and ability to express their experience of wine

Bring along some cheese and biscuits, or come with a full stomach, as it will make the tasting more enjoyable!
