A Confident Voice

A workshop to highlight the spoken word and help writers develop confidence in reading and performing their work. This workshop would suit anyone who wants to “stand and deliver”, whether they are beginners or practised readers, rappers or sonneteers.

Agenda

Participants can practice on a wide range of material:

  • Excerpts from dramatic monologues.
  • Comic pieces.
  • Poems.

There will be voice-freeing exercises and techniques to help the body relax and resonate.

Objectives

There will be an opportunity to write a piece which will be performed at the end of the day.

Other Information

Bring lunch and writing materials. Morning and afternoon tea are provided.

HARRY LAING is a writer and performer who brings a passion for words to voicework sessions. He has read and performed widely. Mark O’Connor has called him “perhaps Australia’s finest reader of poetry”. He has taught many workshops, including at the Sturt Summer School, was a Poet On Wheels in 2006 and has written and performed in five one-man comedy shows. His second series of pieces for radio, Tales Of A Tree Changer was aired on ABC RN in 2006.
