Advanced Beaded Jewellery
If you want to advance your skills in beaded jewellery, in Sydney, then this course is for you.
This course is for people who have completed the first Beaded Jewellery Course, or for people who are confident in the basic beaded jewellery techniques. You will be expanding your skills in beading and wirework. The course will help you realise your own designs and ideas through self initiated projects. Use the techniques that interested you in the first Beaded Jewellery Course to make more interesting and complex pieces of jewellery that involve a greater variety of materials.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
Week One:
- Cover the OH&S issues relevant to beaded jewellery
- Overview of the basic skills and the tools that you will be using in the course
- Discuss with the students the direction they want to take with their beaded jewellery in the course
Week Two:
- Look at the different project sheets, magazines, books. From this you will develop your ideas and decide on your projects for the course.
- We will discuss the supplies that you need to complete your projects and the types of beads and materials that you will want to use
Week Three – Week Seven:
- Completing the tasks that you have set yourself, using the beads and materials that you decided on. The tutor will be able to direct you in technique, design ideas and help with the development of your projects.
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course students will have:
- Gained an understanding of the OH&S issues in relation to working with bead, wire and hand tools
- Learned how to read patterns and projects and to realise these into practical projects
- Gained a knowledge of local suppliers to source your materials including beads and findings
- Learned how to incorporate other objects into your designs for a more elaborate piece of jewellery.
Other Information
- Students are encouraged to create their own individual designs
throughout the course.
- Participants will need to source and supply the beads and materials for their project.
- Information about supplies required and where to get any materials will be provided by the tutor at the start of the course.
- Students should bring a pen and note pad. All tools will be provided by the college, however you may wish to bring along any tools you have already purchased.
Leichhardt Campus, Sydney Secondary College (formerly Leichhardt High School) is located on the corner of Balmain Road and Moore Street West. Entry via Derbyshire Street. Onsite parking very limited, some street parking available.
