Landscape Photography Workshop

Learn to create stronger and more dramatic landscape photographs. This one day course, led by respected Australian photojournalist Peter Solness, will help you to see the landscape in a new and more intimate way. Peter has produced several books on the Australian landscape and will use his vast experience to help you develop a shooting approach that will add impact to your images.

Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

  • Discuss the value of landscape photography and consider some classic images of this genre
  • Consider how such photographs can enrich our imagination and give us a sense of connection to the landscape.
  • Learn how to interpret the landscape in both a creative and technically competent way
  • Practice these methods on a practical photo shoot at a nearby location
  • Consider and practice approaches to technique, lens selection, perspectives and some basic photoshop methods
  • Review the results in class in a supportive and constructive environment

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course the student will have:

  • Observed a range of photographic work that reflects the objective of the course
  • Discussed ways of having your work presented and even published * Learned approaches to photographing landscape and being given inspiring examples
  • Observed various composition and other techniques for photographing landscape
  • Used a photo shoot to practice skills learned in class, with constructive follow-up
  • Found stimulation in trying new approaches and extending knowledge

Other Information

  • Bring a digital camera – preferably a SLR style and any supporting equipment you like to work with such as tripod etc
  • Shoot time and location to be negotiated in class.
