Photography Talks

Join us for a talk given by two professional photographers. Hear their thoughts about Portrait Photography from an insider’s perspective and examine their styles and approach to their work.

The talks will be conducted by the following photographers:

  • Jon Lewis’s achievements are many and varied, with more than 20 years’ teaching experience, and has been photographing and exhibiting photographs for 35 years. His style is documentary in nature with an emphasis on portrait photography including portfolios of images of The Bush, Outback, Bondi, Timor and Being Muslim. Jon Lewis first exhibited in 1974. He was a member of Sydney’s “Yellow House“ in the early 70’s, went on to make experimental video with “Bush Video”. In 1977 Jon was a founding member of Greenpeace Australia, which led a successful campaign to end the slaughter of whales. His interests are reflected in his photography, and when not on the hop, photographing or teaching, lives in the Southern Highlands of NSW, where he schemes for sponsorship, reads, writes and hunts wild pigs. In 2007, Jon was the curator of the Greenpeace 30th Anniversary Photo Exhibition, Wombeyan International Photo Festival, and Sorry Day with Jodie Wiggins. More recently Jon has just returned from Kirabati where he photographed the people struggling to deal with the effects of global warming on their islands. This series was exhibited as part of the Head On Portrait Festival – “Portraits from the Edge” Kiribati – Putting a Face to Climate Change.
