Fabric Painting

If you want to learn Fabric Painting in Sydney then this course of 1 class is for you.

Enjoy the fun of creating a unique hand painted piece of fabric. You will be guided to create your own one off design, using a simple and effective technique and you will take home 2 metres of fabric. Participants do not require any previous design or painting experience. The College will supply all basic equipment, including the base fabric, although you may like to bring extra supplies to suit your project.

Agenda

During this workshop the intention is that the following topics will be covered but not necessarily in the order given. The curriculum will be adapted to suit the needs of the class. The basic topics covered will be:

  • How to adapt design ideas for fabric painting
  • Preparation of fabric
  • Thinning and mixing fabric printing pastes
  • Application of fabric printing pastes to fabric by brush and splatter techniques

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the workshop the student will:

  • Be able to prepare a piece of cotton fabric for painting
  • Have explored the consistency of fabric paints to achieve a variety of effects
  • Have completed a finished piece of painted fabric

Other Materials

  • Fabric is supplied
  • Please wear old or protective clothing eg apron or over shirt – this can be a very messy workshop! Splattering is often popular
  • Variety of sizes of brushes suitable for your designs
  • An old rag, or 2, for drying your hands
  • A hairdryer and extension cord
  • Containers for mixing paints
