Introduction to Fashion Illustration

This one day course is for those creative people who lack the time to do the longer courses and want to learn the basic skills to get them through to be able to draw their own design ideas & /or is a “refresher” or “taste” of what to expect in the full time Fashion Illustration course,

This course is a practical workshop where students are exposed to techniques and skills through demonstration and then practicing example with one-on-one guidance and tuition.

Subjects covered range from basic fashion head and body, through to fabric rendering and presentation.

If you want to learn Fashion Illustration in Sydney, then this course is for you.

Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

  • Drawing the face and facial details for fashion drawing*
  • Discussion of the design process & relevance to the fashion industry
  • Preliminary fashion drawing / illustration & concepts
  • Drawing the human body as a fashion figure*
  • Discussing proportion, industry stylization
  • Creating / drawing fashion templates
  • Drawing clothes on the fashion template/body*
  • Focusing on a variety of fashion styles eg: may be identified according to specific group designed for, men, women, & areas of specialization such as – Designer; Contemporary; Street wear; Clubbing; Sportswear; Bridal etc.
  • Drawing technical/production drawing - “flats"*
  • Process of refining design features/details.
  • Rendering Techniques of Fabrics texture using different media ie;*
  • Illustration and rendering techniques and mediums used to represent various fabrics and textures.
  • Presentation and layout ideas for design portfolios.

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course, students will have:

  • Broadened their knowledge of techniques and skills used for fashion Design illustration
  • Identified their own strengths in regard to techniques and skills and begin development of their own personal style
  • A general knowledge of fashion illustration and design industries and tips in relation to students’ own interests (eg. areas of specialization such as :-Designer; Contemporary ;Street wear; Clubbing ;Sportswear; Bridal etc.)
  • A basic knowledge of layout and presentation

Please bring:

  • A3 Cartridge pad
  • 2B and 6B pencils
  • 1 X Artline 200 Black fine point size 0.4
  • Soft eraser
  • Ruler
  • 1X Skin tone “Tria” Marker
  • Fashion magazines for reference

Optional

  • 1 set of Water colour pencils
  • Paintbrushes – round pointed #5 and #12
  • Gouache paint – flesh, black, white

Please wear closed in shoes.
