Have you ever wondered what its like inside an artist’s studio and how and why they make their art? Are you curious to meet and chat informally with artists in their own creative spaces? Then join one of our guided walking tours through Newtown to the Lennox Street Studios. The tour includes a visit to a local gallery, a walk down the back lanes of Newtown to the Lennox Street Studios and introduction and conversation with at least 4 artists.. It will conclude with wine & cheese on the verandah and an invitation to the opening night of the Studio’s annual exhibition. Those who want to carry on after the tour has finished will be given a guide to favourite artist haunts and hangouts in the streets of Newtown.

Agenda

Newtown is one Sydney’s most diverse and vibrant villages brimming with artists, galleries, grunge, café culture, great pubs and fantastic restaurants. The Lennox Street Studios has been running for over 12 years and provides studio space for over 28 established or emerging artists. The tour will provide opportunity for small groups of people to meet one of the founders of the studios and several of the artists to discuss their work and inspiration.

Objectives

At the end of the tour, participants will have developed insights into art life and studio environments in Newtown. You will have discovered some fantastic works of original art and chatted to the artists directly. And if that isn’t enough you will be welcome to our humble hospitality of wine & cheese on our grungy old verandah!

Please meet at Wilson Street Gallery at 2pm…where you will meet your Guide, Jennie Pry. Jennie can be reached on 0405 452 512 if you have any problems getting there on the day.

After an introduction to the Gallery and current exhibition, you will be lead along the back streets of Newtown to the Lennox Street Studios (about 12 – 15 min walk).
Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring an umbrella (just in case) and some warm clothes, as our studios don’t have heating and in can get breezy on our verandahs! The tour concludes at 4:30pm.

Cost of tours:
TBC…$55 per head. maximum 12 people. Includes tour, wine & cheese and invitation to the opening night of the annual open studios exhibition.
