If you want to learn basic computing for Windows XP (PC) in Sydney, then this course is for you.
This accredited course is an opportunity for absolute beginners to ease their way into using computers. Learn to: operate keyboard and mouse, access, retrieve and manipulate data using a software application, access and use help. Assessments are made against the following units of competency from the Certificate II in Information Technology (ICA120105):
- Operate a personal computer (ICAU1128A)
- Operate computer hardware (ICAU2005A)
- Use computer operating system (ICAU2231A)
- Follow workplace safety procedures (BSBCMN106A).

Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered-but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- OHS: including safety procedures, workplace hazards, ergonomics
- Parts of the computer: Mouse, keyboard, monitor, systems unit, disk drives, printer & various other available devices (such as CD-ROM drive, scanner, digital camera, speakers, modem)
- The role and importance of software: System software (such as Windows XP) and application software (such as MSWord)
- Starting and using Windows: The desktop; using the mouse and keyboard with Windows; features of the desktop (shortcut icons, pointer; task bar; recycle bin); window elements; opening, moving resizing & closing windows; using menus; start menu shortcuts; shortcut menus; changing date & time.
- Units of disk storage: Bytes & capacities of a floppy disk & of the hard disk of the computer in use (right click on icon for C drive in My Computer & then open properties). Other storage devices. RAM and ROM.
- Opening & using programs: Examine accessories sub menu & open applications such as Solitaire, Notepad, Paint. Opening & using a word processing program (such as WordPad).
- Printing: Print preview & print commands.
- Introduction to managing files & folders. Creating, naming & deleting a folder on a floppy disk using shortcut menu.
- Shutting down through Start menu & using keyboard.

- Understand Ergonomics and the need for rest breaks
