If you want to learn about investing in a property in Sydney, then this course of 1 class is for you.

Aimed at the first time investor in property, this course will present an overview of the current market as well as selecting a property and managing agent, finding appropriate finance, depreciation, negative gearing and capital gains tax. Guest speakers to include a mortgage broker and accountant.

The course will be led by a qualified real estate valuer and property investor with over 25 years experience in the industry, with guest speakers sharing with you their expertise in legal and financial matters.

Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

• Learning to plan a strategy for investing in property.
• Investigating loans and appropriate legal structures.
• Choosing a property – elements to look for.
• An overview of the current Sydney residential market.
• Understanding negative gearing, depreciation, capital gains tax.

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course the student will have:

• Learned about the issues involved in deciding to buy an investment property – financial and legal.
• Learned about the property market and how to choose an appropriate investment property.
