This course focuses on the essential knowledge and skills required to successfully work in a vocational educational learning environment. You will learn how to manage your OH&S responsibilities, discover how the VET sector operates, be able to unpack training packages to meet client needs and ensure your learning and assessment demonstrates inclusive practice.

This course contains the following units of competency:

  • TAAENV401A Work effectively in vocational education and training
  • TAAENV402A Foster and promote an inclusive learning culture
  • TAAENV403A Ensure a healthy and safe learning environment

Please Note: In order to successfully complete this qualification you will need to deliver and assess training for a group of learners in your workplace. If you are not currently employed as a trainer we will ask you to either volunteer your services to a community organisation OR we will do our best to provide a simulated workplace on your behalf. Please contact Ann Brady on 8752 7533 BEFORE you enrol if you do not have a workplace where you can deliver training.

Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

  • The VET Sector – an overview
  • Expectation of Trainer and Assessors in the VET sector
  • Meet clients needs with training packages
  • OH&S responsibilities and legislation
  • Your role in ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment
  • Identify hazards in the learning environment
  • Assess risks
  • Develop action plans and monitoring the learning environment
  • What is inclusivity?
  • Relevant legislation to support inclusivity
  • Resources to support inclusivity
  • Your role in practicing and promoting inclusivity
  • Work practices to support an inclusive culture

Objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain the components of Vocational Education & Training Sector (VET)
  • Discuss and identify relevant workplace standards or benchmarks
  • Identify and unpack the different parts of a training package in particular a unit of competency
  • Define and discuss the concept of inclusivity in a learning/assessment environment
  • Select appropriate solutions, which could assist with different inclusivity issues in a learning context
  • Identify the OH&S responsibilities of trainers and assessors
  • Complete an OH&S hazard/ risk assessment in a simulated environment

Venue: Design & Technology Ctr, cnr Gordon St & Victoria Rd, Rozelle. If driving, no left turn into Gordon St, so turn left into Lilyfield Rd, then first right into Gordon St. Some parking is available on site.
