If you want to learn Business English in Sydney, then this course is for you.

This course gives individual attention and thorough training for students who are interested in business, currently studying business or students who are currently in a business environment.

Agenda

The detailed course agenda will be designed during the first class to accommodate students’ needs for business English. The following are indications of some of the topics that may be covered during the course:

• Reading and business writing skills – extended texts
• Different purposes of written business communication eg. letters, memorandums, complaints, sales, claims, enquiries and responses; promotional material, flyers, newsletters, advertisements
• Long reports
• Listening skills and assertiveness
• Staff recruiting and job-seeking skills

The course will include current material from the SMH, Financial Review and other business publications in addition to vocabulary, phrasal verbs and idiomatic language unique to business contexts.

Each term will also include a discussion about contemporary international business culture.

Students will also have an opportunity to prepare a presentation to the class on a business scenario.

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course students will have:

• Learned and practised a variety of strategies for using spoken English in a variety of business contexts
• Participated in business type conversations
• Practised composing and reading a variety of business documents
• Practised writing informal and formal business texts
