Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

  • The history and origins of chocolate
  • The differences in different types of chocolate
  • Combinations of chocolate with various flavours
  • Facts of chocolate
  • How one reacts to chocolate and its combinations and variety of flavours

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course the student will know:

  • Where chocolate started, and how originally chocolate was eaten
  • The conditions required for the cocoa tree to grow
  • When chocolate came to the western world
  • The difference between milk, white and dark chocolate
  • How to distinguish between couverture and compound chocolate
  • Combinations of chocolate with various flavours
  • If chocolate is an aphrodisiac
  • How the taste buds react to the combinations of flavours and chocolate
