Veganism, a lifestyle where there is no consumption of any animal products whatsoever, is a rapidly growing subculture. Due to its’ strong ethical grounding, alignment with healthy eating principles and minimal impact upon the environment, it appeals to many different people for many different reasons.
If you want to learn Vegan Cuisine in Sydney, then this course is for you.
Vegan cuisine is bright, tasty, easy and satisfying, and incorporates flavours and techniques from cultures around the globe.
The course will cover nutrition, a range of cookery techniques, and act as an introduction to all things vegan – as well as showing how easy and healthful vegan cuisine can be!
Organic and in season ingredients will be used where possible.
So if you are interested in learning more about vegan cuisines and ways of incorporating it into your everyday lifestyle, then this is the course for you.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- Why vegan?
- What are vegan ingredients, where do I find them and how do I use them?
- Students will receive comprehensive information booklets and recipes, and cook a vegan feast that will be enjoyed by the whole class.
- Recipes will cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert dishes, inspired by cuisines from around the world.
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course, the students will have:
- Gained knowledge on the vegan lifestyle, vegan nutrition and vegan products
- Learned a range of vegan recipes and methods of cookery
- Learned about food preparation and safety
Other Information
Students should wear:
- Comfortable, sensible clothing with no overhanging sleeves
- Flat, closed toe or covered shoes
Students will need to bring:
- A sharp chef’s knife
- Notebook and pen
- Apron
- Tea towel
- Containers (for leftovers)
Leichhardt Campus, Sydney Secondary College (formerly Leichhardt High School) is located on the corner of Balmain Road and Moore Street West. Pedestrian entrance is on Balmain Rd near Annesley St intersection. Limited parking is available in the school car park, which is accessible from Derbyshire Rd (west of Balmain Rd). Drivers can also park in Annesley St or Hill St (east of Balmain Rd).
