Swedish Massage

Learn the healing art of massage. This hands on course teaches you techniques to give a full body relaxation massage. You will also learn a Shiatsu (Japanese acupressure style) routine. Tables, course notes and oils are provided. You will also enjoy a massage each class from your fellow students! Please note – the course provides pathways to advanced career massage courses.

If you want to learn Swedish Massage in Sydney, then this course is for you.

This course enables total beginners as well as people with some knowledge of massage to reach a clinical standard within 8 sessions.

Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

The course aims to deliver information about both the practice and theory of massage as a healing art. The practical learning sequences include a full body massage (head, neck, back, arms, legs, feet) as well as a Shiatsu (Japanese massage) routine. There will be plenty of opportunity to review and practice techniques.

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course:

  • The aim is to have students give a complete, effective, full body relaxing massage with oil.
  • Students will gain the skills to provide massage to friends and family or to practise massage within an existing clinical framework e.g. nurses, counsellors, beauty therapists, sports people.
  • Students will also start to understand the philosophies of this healing art and cover learning related to massage contraindications, ethical behaviour, case history taking, and clinical procedure.
  • Students will have – A Swedish Massage Certificate of Attendance.

Other Information

Please arrive on the first night about 10 minutes early and report to front desk.

Students will need to bring a large towel and two small towels.

Using This Course as a Pathway to Advanced Studies:

  • Students wishing to continue past this course to advanced courses such as the Certificate IV in Massage (HLT40307) or the Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT50307) will need to undertake the School’s assessments for Swedish massage (additional 2 sessions) and complete the supervised clinic hours. There will be a $125 fee for these additional assessments ($100 to complete the certificate plus $25 admin. fee). Please speak to Admin at the School if you are interested in continuing.
