If you want to learn Zen Buddhist Meditation in Sydney, then this course of 6 classes is for you.

Modern life sees us becoming more and more busy. Our time seems no longer our own, as demands are put upon us from all sides. Silence is virtually unknown, particularly if we don’t know how to turn off the mobile phone. But it is possible, within the this busy, noisy world, to create a space for our self. A place where we can rebuild, and re-energize our life. The tool to do this is meditation. The style of meditation employed in this program is that of Zen Buddhism. This meditation tradition has a history of more than a thousand years, and it is as vital today as it was in T’ang China.
Over the course you will be introduces to a variety of meditation techniques that you can use in your daily life. You will also be introduced to the philosophical foundation of this meditation practice, so that you can place the practice in perspective.

Agenda

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

• Sitting and walking meditation
• Practice of mindfulness
• Life of the Buddha
• Four Noble Truths
• Four Great Vows
• Precepts
• Emptiness
• Koan practice

Objectives

The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.

By the end of the course the student will have:

• Learned the basics of Zen meditation
• Be conscious of the basic principles and practices of Zen Buddhism.

Other Information

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. We will meditate in our chairs, but if you have a meditation cushion and wish to bring it, feel free. A notepad and pen may be useful.

The Sydney Zen Centre is located at 251 Young St, Annandale.
