Barefoot Bowls
If you want to learn Barefoot Bowls in Sydney, then this course is for you.
Feel the grass grow between your toes and join a social group of students to learn how to lawn bowl. For six weeks you’ll have a lesson in the finer points of making sure your bowl is the closest to the jack. On the seventh and last evening compete in a serious tournament.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
Week One:
- How to hold a bowl
- How to stand correctly on the mat
- How to roll the jack
- Delivery of the bowl
- Rules of the game
- Etiquette
- Practice games
Week Two – Five:
- Practice of week one skills and games
- Advanced bowling techniques
Week Six:
- More practice of skills and games
- Where to from here – playing bowls seriously
Week Seven:
- Tournament
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course students will be qualified and competent to join any bowling club and play bowls.
Students will learn:
- How to hold a bowl
- How to stand correctly on the mat
- How to roll the jack
- Delivery of the bowl
- Rules of the game
- Bowling etiquette
- Advanced bowling techniques (e.g. weight, take the grass and others)
- What bowls to buy that are suitable for them
- How to become involved in serious competition
Other Information
Petersham Bowling Club, Brighton Street Petersham.
Bowls are supplied and membership is included in course fee.
To the first session please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Shoes or trainers are not allowed on the greens. You can wear flat bottomed shoes on the bowling green, but no heels or thongs are permitted. Please bring a light rain jacket if rain threatening or it’s sprinkling and a small towel to wipe your bowls.
If it is raining lightly or only intermittently sessions will go ahead.
All sport/recreation classes are active and therefore you must bring to the attention of the tutor, any physical or health-related impairment that may affect your safety.
PLS NOTE: All classes need a minimum number of students to go ahead. If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled and you will be informed. ***Please be aware that you maybe be informed of a cancellation &/or change via SMS or E-mail.
For all courses involving physical activity you must arrive by the published course commencement time or the tutor may refuse to admit you into the session. The agenda for many courses involving physical activity starts with an OH&S briefing and/or a warn up and to miss either may create a hazard to you which might exclude you from participation for the session.
