Buying a Bicycle
If you want to learn how to Buy a Bicycle in Sydney, then this course is for you.
Buying a bike used to be a matter of choosing the colour. Today, it is a complex and costly choice. Learn from a bike expert how to choose a bike that best meets your cycling needs and dreams (such as the south of France!) Discuss the different types of bike, their advantages and disadvantages, buying the right size for you, accessories and clothing. This workshop is a wise investment for anyone thinking about buying a new or second hand bike.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- The different types of bike
- The advantages and disadvantages of the different types
- Proper bicycle clothing and safety equipment
- How to buy the correct size
- What makes bikes more expensive (componentry, frame materials, brand)?
- The different levels of bike componentry (eg Shimano 105 compared to Dura Ace)
- Frames materials
- The different Brands of bike
- What questions to ask at the bike shop
- The pitfalls of buying second hand
- You’ve bought the bike – what you can do and what the shop should do
Objectives
By the end of the course students will be able to:
- Confidently buy a bicycle to suit their purpose or dream
Other Information
Please bring a bike helmet if you have one and wear comfortable clothes and sandshoes.
The College Office is located on the cnr Balmain Road and Perry Street, Leichhardt. (Within the grounds of Orange Grove Public School.) Parking available. Enter on Perry Street. The school hall is in the large brown brick building in the centre of the playground.
