Capoeira
If you want to learn Capoeira in Sydney, then this course is for you.
The dynamic Brazilian art form and self defence system that blends elements of dance, gymnastics and martial arts, music and power. A moderate level of fitness is recommended. Give it a try and experience the physical and social benefits while you are having fun and making new friends.
Agenda
During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the flexible nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
- Appreciating the music, philosophy and history of the Capoeira
- Learning and practising the basic movements
- Using the movements as self-defence
- Using the movements for dance and gymnastics
- Developing your own style of exercise using Capoeira
Objectives
The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows.
By the end of the course the student will have:
- Appreciated the Capoeira as an art form
- Learned the basic movements
- Explored the alternate forms that the art can take
- Used the Capoeira as a means of exercise and self-expression
Other Information
Please wear loose and comfortable clothes.
Class location and days are flexible, if you cannot make a class it can be made up on another day. Please check for alternative dates with your instructor.
All sport/recreation classes are active and therefore you must bring to the attention of the tutor, any physical or health-related impairment that may affect your safety.

For all courses involving physical activity you must arrive by the published course commencement time or the tutor may refuse to admit you into the session. The agenda for many courses involving physical activity starts with an OH&S briefing and/or a warn up and to miss either may create a hazard to you which might exclude you from participation for the session.
