2009 College Awards Night

The Sydney Community College recently celebrated its 10th Annual college Awards night. It was a wonderful evening where the hard work of tutors, students and staff was recognised. The night was a festive mix of awards, performances dinner and drinks.

The Student Award Winners in the areas of Photography, Visual Arts, Jewellery and Textiles and Fashion were Brett Hamlin, Richard Philpot, Clair Molloy, Sarah Furness, Selina McGrath, Kirstin Graham, Kylie Mulquin and Gail Kearsley.

This year, The Stephen Lardner Award for Excellence in Teaching was David Eck for his program Pramercise. This program was designed originally for his sister to get her back into shape after the birth of her child. Charged by its success he now delivers the program to inspire all new mothers.

Long Serving Tutor Award were presented to Swee Eng Chia, Graham Reitzin, Marilyn Martin, Cynthia Turner and Sarah Whitlock in recognition of their continuous dedication and commitment to the College and its students.

Long Term Staff Awards were given to Ann Brady and Cherril Amphlett for their dedicated work over extended periods.

The Outstanding Education Program went to both the Skilled Migrant mentoring and Skilled Refugee Mentoring Programs. These programs are designed to break down the barriers faced by skilled migrant and refugees to gain meaningful employment. The Award was accepted by Ruby Madan, the Refugee Mentoring Project Coordinator.

The evening included a number exciting and polished performances by students and tutors. The angelic sounds of the College Choir, the harmonic a Capella singing from The Voice Within, the magnificent hat and fascinator creations of the Millinery class, the fiery salsa, rumba and cha cha from Social Dance, the hilarious antics of Rob McHugh stand up Comedy and the rhythmic beats of the African Drumming Class.

A big thank you! to the MC Joanna Maxwell, and guest presenters Dr Roger Morris, Jana Stone, Brett Smout and Ellen McLoughlin on a job well done!

Congratulations to all our awards winners, performers and attendees on an amazing night. This was truly a great event and will be the talk of the year. We look forward to your attendance at next years 11th College Awards Night.
