Doing Your Homework Important for First Home Buyers!

Buying a home for the first time is said to be a steep learning curve so educating yourself is a must according to real estate educator and coach, Scott Durrant.

Scott is running a course at Sydney Community College on Saturday 1 August in Rozelle to do just that. “By the end of the day, people will be able to understand the buying process and the costs involved“, says Scott.

“Mistakes are expensive in real estate so it makes sense to invest in a $130 course for a purchase worth hundreds of thousands of dollars“.

According to Scott, “There is more to buying real estate than meeting up with the local bank manager and getting a home loan. Understanding such things as market trends, the conveyancing process and how to protect yourself when making an offer or signing the contract are essential for new entrants into the property market“.

The course helps people deal with real estate agents, valuers, mortgage brokers, solicitors and banks. “I teach it from an independent point of view and there are lots of handouts and a course work book for people to have as a record“ he says. “We also deal with the First Homeowners Grant and other duty exemptions and how to apply for them“.

“By doing their homework, first home buyers will avoid the pitfalls and traps of purchasing real estate and have greater confidence when dealing with all the players in the property market”.

But it is not all hard work it seems. Scott says it is a fun and relaxed course with plenty of stories and real life experiences to share.
