Absence

Absence

It is expected that College Tutors and Trainers will meet their commitments to teach as advertised in the course brochure and the only exception to this is the case of unexpected illness or accident. If you can not teach because of illness or accident, there are two options:

  • Provide a replacement for your class
  • Cancel the session and reschedule at a later date
Provide a Replacement for your Class.
As a Trainer or Tutor you may nominate a replacement for your class. In this case the College must have the replacement College Tutors/Trainers details in advance, preferably another College Tutor/Trainer or somebody who is on your personnel file as your “stand in” in the event of illness. It may be a good idea to team up with one or more other College Tutors/Trainers in your subject area and make arrangements to stand in for each other in the event of illness. Your Faculty Manager can help in facilitating this and in the case of a replacement needed MUST be notified as far in advance as possible.

Any replacement tutor must:

  • be qualified and competent to teach the class.
  • must report to the Site Coordinator 30 minutes before the start of the class to be briefed on evacuation and Occupational Health & Safety procedures.
Cancel the Session and Reschedule at a Later Date.
If a session is to be cancelled, please notify your supervising manager in person as far in advance as possible. Do not assume a voicemail or email will reach your supervisor prior to the start of your class. Personal contact is best. We will need to contact all students in the class to notify them of the session being cancelled. It is essential that College Tutors/Trainers have checked in the first class that all students have the correct contact phone number(s) on the roll (see class rolls section). If a session is cancelled, the College Tutor/Trainer is responsible for negotiating the make up of time with the class and for liaising with the Site Coordinator and Supervisor in scheduling a make up class.
