Assessment/Moderation Policy
National Assessment Guidelines
In May of 1998 the National Training Frameworks Committee endorsed a list of 12 Assessment Principles which provide a framework for training organisations to offer assessment which is Flexible, Valid, Reliable and Fair. The College applies and adheres to these guidelines, therefore all College Tutors delivering Accredited Courses must design, deliver and review their assessments according to these national assessment principles in addition to guidelines for assessment as outlined in the current curriculum. Sydney Community College reocgnises the AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTO in Australia and actively promotes Recognition of Prior Learning for students who have existing skills and/or qualifications which relate to their course of study. For assistance please contact your Leading Teacher or Faculty Manager.
Moderation
All College Tutors of accredited courses will moderate their assessment procedures at the College twice in a given calendar year. Contact your Leading Teacher or Faculty Manager for more details. College Tutors of English Language and Literacy are required to attend two external moderation sessions which will include representatives from other ACE Colleges and/or organisations such as AMES, or Department of Corrective Services.
It is the responsibility of the Leading Teacher or Faculty Manager to inform the College Tutors of the upcoming external moderation sessions.
It is the responsibility of the College Tutor to register attendance at the external moderation sessions with the Leading Teacher or Faculty Manager.
College Tutors will be required to supply the following information at all moderation sessions:
- Assessment Task Cover Sheet
- Student Assessment Task
- Performance Criteria
