Undertaking VET Courses
You are about to undertake an accredited course with Sydney Community College.
What does this mean?
The Course
The delivery and the assessment of this course will be structured in accordance with the relevant Training Package guidelines, and the qualification issued will be nationally recognised in accordance with the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF)
The Assessment
You will be assessed against competencies, or skills and knowledge required to perform the tasks a job requires to the standards demanded by industry. Your trainer will notify you of these competencies before you being your class.
The Assessment Decision
Your assessment will be conducted in a valid, fair, reliable and flexible manner. Once you have successfully completed the module, and have been assessed, you will be deemed “Competent“ or “Not yet competent” by your trainer. If you do not agree with the assessment result you are entitled to have your assessment task reviewed within 14 days of the initial decision. Please contact your trainer in the first instance, for further information on the assessment appeal process.
Mutual Recognition
Sydney Community College recognises Australian qualifications Framework (AQF) Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations (RTO). If you have a current qualification from another RTO, and you wish to seek credit towards a course offered by Sydney Community College, you can apply to the College for recognition of this achievement. See the VET Manager, Administration Office for further details.
Recognition of Prior Learning
SCC recognises that you may be able to demonstrate a particular competency on the basis of prior learning, skills gained in the workforce, or skills otherwise gained. For more information on this Recognition of prior learning (RPL) contact the VET manager at the administration office for further
details.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Should you require support in language, literacy or numeracy, to successfully complete your course, please contact the College Office and arrange to speak to the Manager of English Language and Literacy.
Rights and Responsibilities of the College and the Student
The college is committed to providing quality adult education, and is responsible for ensuring:
- students are provided with complete and accurate course information
- courses are delivered by appropriately qualified and experienced tutors
- programs incorporate adult learning principals and good practice in teaching and learning
- the health, safety and welfare of students through the implementation of occupational health and safety systems
- student records and information will be confidential in line with national Privacy Principles
If a student feels that the college has not met these standards, a complaint can be made by contacting the Faculty Manger responsible for the course and requesting details of the college Complaints, grievances & appeals procedures.
Code of Conduct
The college views students as equal partners in the education process. Students must:
- respect the individuality and rights of all fellow students
- maintain privacy and confidentiality in respect of all matters relating to students and staff
- adhere to directions from the class tutor
- work safely and not endanger others in the class
- participate positively in the class.
- Adhere to all college rules and regulations
If a student breaks the code of conduct, they may be excluded from the class.
