Robert Morehead has worked in the movie industry and as an advertising photographer for three decades. Currently, he manages a large studio called Bigfish Pictures www.bigfishpictures.co.au, which is located in McMahons Point, Sydney. With experience that covers still-life and product projects, annual reports and tourism accounts in Australia and overseas, Robert is highly credentialed when it comes to lighting technique.
As well as commercial work, Robert considers personal work vitally important. He has taken part in two group exhibitions as part of the Headon Photographic Festival in Sydney. The exhibitions were titled, Discovering Country (a collection of landscape photographs from the Kosciusko National Park), and Works in Process (a body of work resulting from personal images over a 10-year period).
Robert’s CV of achievements speaks volumes about his excellent reputation in the industry and talent behind the camera. Most recently, his works have been captured in three exhibitions – Works in Process (2010), Discovering Country (2010) and Around the Bends (2003). Robert’s skills have been recognised through the inclusion of his work in the prestigious Fuji ACMP Australian Photographers Collection on two occasions (1992/2000).
Other career highlights include winning an advertising award on behalf of the Cook Islands Tourist Authority, and working as a stills photographer on the 1979 film, Tim, starring Mel Gibson and Piper Laurie.
Robert describes his teaching style as hands-on, bringing together practical demonstrations, theory and samples of work relative to the subject. He encourages group discussions and collaboration throughout the course in a way that engages students as they go about completing set assignments.
Robert enjoys his work and is committed to pursuing, and promoting photography, as an art form.
