Achievements

In 2002 Swee-Eng Chia was awarded the Stephen Lardner Award by Sydney Community College in recognition of her continuous outstanding commitment to adult learning.

Teaching Style

Swee-Eng’s teaching style is instructive and hands-on. Her classes are typically dividied into groups of three where each group prepares three dishes per lesson. She demonstrates and supervises during the preparation phase of the class before everyone enjoys a sit-down dinner together.

Swee-Eng hopes her students learn more about Nonya cuisine – a fusion between Chinese and Malay food – but more importantly, become confident in preparing it for their friends and family by the end of the course!

Something Unique

Swee-Eng finds her tutoring role allows her to combine her passion for Nonya cuisine – which is part of her culture – with her love of teaching adults, who she has found show great enthusiam for Asian food and cooking.
