Dean Johns has over 30 years' experience as a copywriter and creative director with multinational advertising agencies including JWT, McCann-Erickson and DDB Needham in Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.
With experience across all media, Dean’s worked on high-profile global brands including Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, KFC, Sony, General Motors, Volkswagen, Nestlé, Levi’s, Gillette, and many others.
A reporter and columnist for the leading South-East Asian marketing communications magazine ADOI from 1997 to 2004, Dean was also regional editor of ADOI in Malaysia and Indonesia from 2005 to 2006.
Currently freelance copywriter and journalist based in Sydney, Dean’s ongoing assignments include a weekly column in Malaysia’s leading online political news portal, Malaysiakini.com.
Dean’s shares his extensive experience with others as a tutor of evening adult classes in Creative Writing Essentials at Sydney Community College. He’s registered as a mentor with the NSW Writers' Centre.
