Since 2007, Kassandra Bossell has run her own business creating designs, props, models, sculpture, moulds and backdrops on a commissioned basis, for theatre, film, events, museums and festivals. She’s held many other positions including sculpture lecturer at the National Art School, and art teacher at Macquarie University, Chatswood Evening College, Manly Warringah Community College, and Pine St Community Centre.
Kassandra’s extensive experience also includes a five-year involvement as art workshop leader for the Mascon Festival, curator for the Sydney Community College art exhibition in 1997, and manager of The Laughing Museum in 1995.
Kassandra’s work has involved sculpture, mould making and props in film, theatre, museums, production companies, events, festivals, puppetry and private commissions. Her creations have appeared in House of Wax, Stealth, Matrix 2, Matrix 3, Gene-X, and Star Wars. Kassandra’s first of many solo exhibitions was held in Germany in 1992.
Other achievements include creating large event-scaled sculptures right through to miniature model-scaled works for the Melbourne Museum, the Powerhouse Museum, Old Parliament House, Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Opera Australia, the Sydney Theatre Company, and Sydney International Airport.
Kassandra has also worked with several community-based organisations such as Sydney Community College, Greenpeace, Newtown Festival, Amnesty International, Bondi Pavilion, Mascon Festival, Woodford Festival and Mardi Gras.
Kassandra is relaxed and open-minded about art and the teaching of it. She likes playing music during the classes and delivers structure to those who require it, and the green light to those who need space – so it’s about meeting the needs of each individual. Her aim is to establish an open community among her students. She is still learning, too.
Kassandra loves her job.
